Have you ever noticed that when you have your hair styled at a salon, the end result is flawless and you feel like you just stepped out of a magazine?!

Then, you finally need a wash and boom, back to your regular flat or frizzy Tuesday do'.

We've all been there and there's no shame in that! I wrote this to hopefully help you style your hair at home like a pro and take you from flat and frustrated to posh and polished with a few simple tips and tweaks to your daily hair routine! I've compiled a few tips that I've learned in my 15+ year career as a hairstylist and beauty professional.
The Hair Survival Guide for the Wash-and-Style Warriors:
So, you're the kind of person who treats their hair like a delicate flower garden that needs daily watering and pruning to thrive? Or maybe your prefer the wash and forget about it route? Scalp and hair health is much like your garden and with a few simple tweaks to your routine you too can have magazine worthy locks from the comfort of your own home.
Wash whenever it's needed and don't skip the blow-dry! There is nothing worse for your scalp health than sitting in a braid or bun sopping wet, make sure your hair is 70% dry before putting it in ANY style.
Double shampoo - once for the surface and twice for the deep clean, this tip is a total game changer!
To refresh your style on a no wash day consider dry shampoo your new best friend - it's like a magical powder that says, "I washed my hair yesterday, thank you very much."
Give your hair a vacation from the heat tools - maybe it's time to give your locks and hot tools a break before they start plotting their revenge. let it air dry (mostly, more on that below) and flaunt those natural waves like you're auditioning for a shampoo commercial.
PRO TIP: NEVER go to bed with wet hair, K? Thx.
Remember, styling less won't hurt anyone - except maybe your hot tool's feelings. So, go forth, embrace the hair rebellion, and let your locks live their best life!
Self-care Sunday
Establish a routine! Sunday's are typically reserved for catching up on sleep, enjoying brunch, and indulging in some self-care. Dedicate this day to washing with a clarifying shampoo and using your favorite deep conditioner! For guidance on how to properly care for your hair, check out this useful tip sheet.

Understanding the ingredients in your products
Not all products are created equal. Many individuals may suffer from allergic reactions and inflammation due to the regular use of products that contain specific ingredients like gluten, parabens, sulfates, benzene, artificial fragrance, butane, and more. It is surprising to discover that many of our favorite products include one or more of these substances in their formulas. If you suspect that these ingredients are causing unpleasant symptoms, consult with an dermatologist or healthcare professional. Find my top hair washing recommendations below.
Limit heat styling to 2-3 times a week
So, here's the deal: If you're straightening and curling your hair more often than you change your socks, you might be walking a fine line between fabulous and fried. To avoid turning your head into a crispy critter, try to keep the heat styling to a minimum think of it as a weekly treat for your hair, not an everyday spa appointment. And hey, when in doubt, just pop on a shower cap, sprinkle some dry shampoo magic, and voilà – you're good to go!
On the flip side- Blow drying is your friend! I love using an attachment designed to protect my hair from getting too close to my blow dryer, rough drying until at least 70% dry before either styling with a round brush or air drying the rest of the way, just make sure you're using a heat protectant if you choose a ceramic round brush to style because this also counts as heat styling.
At the end of the day your scalp and hair will thank you for making such good choices.
Check out my top picks for heat protectants and dry shampoos at the google doc below.
Follow the instructions
This may seem obvious, but it's always good to be reminded of fundamental routines. Remember, using heat-safe mousse is the only thing standing between you and a hair-raising experience! Ensure that the mousse or gel you are using for volume is heat-safe before heat styling.
